Fitness: the boring truth

Somehow social media has made fitness look fun and sexy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You won’t feel like exercising most of the time

Get out of your head this motivation thing that you’re meant to find that will magically teleport you to the gym. Simply decide that going to the gym is 100% non-negotiable and not based on whether you “feel like it” or not. Shit I’d never go.

You won’t see results for ages

Depending on what you’re trying to achieve, your starting point and your genetics – you might be working your ass off for months and see nothing. Nada. Zilch. Donut (mmm donut). Trust the process and changes will occur. Just maybe not in the very marketable time-frame of 30-days/8-weeks/12-weeks.

Exercise doesn’t feel good

At the time anyway (we can talk endorphins – the post exercise high, another time). But I have never in the history of a million training sessions, really enjoyed the feeling of lungs combusting and muscles igniting. If you want to make a change, you need to challenge yourself in your training. I’m not talking de-fib dead on the floor kind of push-yourself, but going beyond what you can already do will keep you moving in the right direction toward your goal.

There is no easy way out

If there was, I would have found it, patented it, marketed it, sold it, and currently be living in Monaco on my super-yacht modelling white linen pants, sensible blouse and floppy hat.

There is no easy way out or short cuts in achieving your fitness goals. While our brains can be seduced by the promises of fast results or very little effort – your body doesn’t fall for that shit. Your body is guided by science, by inputs, by hormones, by adaptations at a cellular level – shit I don’t know. But I do know that changes are not achieved in 3 easy payments of $19.95 plus postage & handling.

Let’s say it together everyone: if it’s too good to be true – it probably is.
